Honor Roll
Each semester, the names are published of Honor Roll students in all grades who achieve a semester Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.000-3.749.
High Honor Roll
Each semester, the names are published of High Honor Roll students in all grades who achieve a semester Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.750 or higher.
4.0 Awards
This spring breakfast award program annually awards a certificate to high achievers in all grades, 9-12, for each semester they achieve a 4.0 or better GPA.
Blackhawk Pride
Desire to Develop Skills for Life Long Learning Displays a Sense of Global Consciousness Develops a Sense of Self Worth in Self or Others
Each month, students who are selected by individual staff members as exhibiting the qualities above are honored at a breakfast with their parents and awarded a certificate and t-shirt.
Department Awards
Most departments have ongoing award certificates and/or major awards given on Senior Honors Night.
SENIOR YEAR 7 SEMESTER 4.0 AWARD
This spring breakfast award program annually recognizes high achievers with a plaque for achieving seven consecutive semesters of a 4.0 or better GPA.
EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION
Full-time students with a cumulative GPA that places them in the top 5% of the senior class after seven semesters or who have been named a National Merit Semi-Finalist will be honored at a banquet venue. The Excellence in Education award will also honor the awardees’ parents/guardians and distinguished educators as identified by the student awardees. Students will receive a medallion (to be worn at Commencement) and a framed certificate (given to parents); educators will receive a framed certificate.
HONORS DIPLOMAS
(FINAL CAREER HONORS)
West Aurora High School has three levels of honors diplomas. These distinctions will be included on both diplomas and final transcripts.
Cum Laude
Graduating students with a final cumulative GPA of 3.750-3.999 are
awarded and recognized.
Magna Cum Laude
Graduating students with a final cumulative GPA of 4.000-4.249 are awarded and recognized.
Summa Cum Laude
Graduating students with a final cumulative GPA of 4.250 and above are awarded and recognized.
VALEDICTORIAN/SALUTATORIAN
The graduating seniors with an eight semester cumulative GPA that ranks them first and second in their class are honored as Valedictorian and Salutatorian, respectively. These students are recognized at Commencement. These distinctions will also be included on both their diplomas and final transcripts.
